What significance does a name have for one’s identity? What consequences does a diverse gender entry have in everyday life? Entrag: Margit is a performative examination of identity, bureaucratic structures and the appropriation of institutional spaces. The starting point is Jakob Wirth’s attempt to adopt his godmother’s name as his middle name – a seemingly administrative act that is deeply rooted in questions of self-determination, belonging and social recognition. During a four-day stay at the Reinickendorf town hall, the building is not only explored through the bureaucratic process, but increasingly appropriated by Wirth – a parallel to the personal appropriation of names. The growing familiarity with the rooms, the people and the routines transforms the town hall from a purely administrative instance into a negotiating space for identity and society. The resulting film shows how identity is formed not only in documents, but also in lived spaces and experiences.
